we welcome our first groups of families fleeing Ukraine

Dear friends and partners,

Greetings and love from Moldova!

People from Ukraine have been making their way to Moldova to come and stay with us, both in our team houses and at the day centre. This is a huge undertaking for us as there isn’t much room but we are overjoyed to be able to assist.

On Thursday, our friend Lena and her son Elisei arrived safely after walking miles across the border. Later that day, we lost phone contact with a lady who wanted to get to Moldova with her aged wheelchair-bound mother. We were very worried. We later heard back from them that they had a difficult day trying to leave but have now found a safe place in Kiev to take refuge.

On Friday, we were praying for the safe crossing of a mother and her four children, along with her brother’s children.

Today, she actually arrived with her brother as Ukraine is allowing fighting-age men with more than three children to leave the country.

We feel sad that we only have mattresses to put on the floors for the children and no bed frames. But we are relieved that we have food to share with them.

Please keep praying for everyone caught up in this frightening situation. I have been receiving updates from contacts still in Kiev that it is like a war zone and tension is escalating.

Thank you from Mission Lumina!
